Fairfax Library Foundation Awards Scholarships Through Continuing Education
Fairfax, VA – The Fairfax Library Foundation is proud to announce that eight Fairfax County Public Library employees and volunteers have each been awarded Continuing Education scholarships upwards of $500 to foster the professional development of the Fairfax County Public Library team.
Congratulations to Jane Ampah, Linda Van Den Akker-Landrum, Shannon Seglin, Bonnie Bochert, and Nancy Bronez who will use their scholarships to attend the Bureau of Education and Research’s seminar “What’s New in Children’s Literature and How to Use it in your Program.” Each of these scholarship recipients are highly motivated to improve upon their respective Children’s programs and anticipate the Conference improving upon their leadership and program development abilities, ultimately benefiting the greater Fairfax County and City of Fairfax community.
Susan Larson received a scholarship to enroll in the Computers in Libraries 2011 Conference. Susan considers the Conference a wonderful opportunity to both enhance her technical skills and also to help maximize the use of technology within the Fairfax County Public Library system.
Recognition is also given to Kathleen E. Gunther, who was awarded a scholarship to enroll in the Historic Preservation Certificate Program at Northern Virginia Community College, and Suzanne Levy, who plans on attending the American Library Association Annual Conference in June.
It takes the collective contributions of individuals, businesses, and organizations, to support the Foundation’s sponsorship of multiple Fairfax County Public Library programs and services including the All Fairfax Reads, Changing Lives through Literature, Fall for the Book, Friends Scholarship Fund, the Summer Reading Program, and Ready to Read early literacy outreach.
Fairfax County Public Library Foundation, Inc., doing business as Fairfax Library Foundation, is a private, nonprofit corporation committed to providing supplementary support to the Fairfax County Public Library. The Foundation, while reinforcing the need for continued and increased public support for the library, serves as a catalyst for attracting private funding from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations to enhance library services for our community.
