Fairfax Library Foundation Board Election Results
Fairfax,
VA –The Fairfax Library Foundation Board of Directors held their annual meeting on Tuesday, June 16th, to elect Susan C. Harman, the Associate Director of the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, to serve as Secretary. This term was vacated mid-term by Susan C. Thorniley, Coordinator for Library Information Services for Fairfax County Public Schools, who became that of an ex-officio Director upon accepting her role as the Chairman of the Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees. The transition begins on July 1st just as the library system incurs a fifteen percent budget cut from tax-based funding.
“I appreciate this opportunity to serve as the Secretary of the Fairfax Library Foundation,” says Harman. “Supplementary library support through the foundation is critical to continue the library programs and services that are increasingly demanded by individuals who live, work or study in Fairfax County.”
The dedicated Board is under the leadership of Alvah T. Beander, a certified personal property appraiser specializing in African, African American and African Diaspora who accepted a second three year term. The organization’s Treasurer, Jeffrey M. Armstrong, a Financial Advisor of Ameriprise Financial Advisors, Inc., was also elected to a second term in the midst of his service as the organization’s Treasurer. The Finance Committee’s Vice Chair, Paula Koeck-Gomez, of HSBC Bank and the Development Committee’s Chair, Sally Merten of George Mason University will each serve another three year term as Directors.
The board welcomed three new members to the governing Board. The New Directors are Christopher Neill, the Commercial Relationship Manager at Access National Bank; Yvonne McGhee, Executive Director of both the Fairfax Bar Association and Fairfax Law Foundation; and Christine Parker, Vice President of Business Development for First Virginia Community Bank. Richard J. Frisch, Chief Operating Officer of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and interim CEO of the Chamber joined the Advisory Board.
Charles A. Fegan, who has served the library since 1993, is the representative of the Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees and thus, an ex-officio Director of the Fairfax Library Foundation Board for fiscal year 2010.
Fairfax County Public Library Foundation, Inc., doing business as Fairfax Library Foundation, is a private, nonprofit corporation committed to providing supplementary support to the Fairfax County Public Library. The Foundation, while reinforcing the need for continued and increased public support for the library, serves as a catalyst for attracting private funding from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations to enhance library services for our community.
