A Record-Breaking “Deck the Shelves” GivingTuesday Fundraiser

A wave of community support from donors and followers of Fairfax Library Foundation has helped bring 414 in-demand books, board games, and measuring devices to Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) branches across the region.

Now in its sixth year, the Foundation’s “Deck the Shelves” GivingTuesday campaign invites supporters to purchase “most needed” titles from our Amazon Wish List, which are then donated directly to FCPL. Upon arrival at the library’s Technical Operations facility, each donated book is affixed with a bookplate recognizing its donor’s generosity. Donors even have the option of being the first to check out the book they donate once it arrives through the Foundation’s First Loan Program.

This year’s total of 414 items surpasses a previous high of 371 titles recorded in 2024. The Foundation’s Wish List remains active throughout the year and can be accessed at fairfaxlibraryfoundation.org/get-involved for those interested in contributing beyond the GivingTuesday campaign.

Established in 2012, GivingTuesday was designed as a response to the consumer-driven focus of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It encourages individuals to prioritize generosity and charitable giving, promoting the idea of making kindness a regular part of everyday life.

Since 1994, the Fairfax Library Foundation has existed solely with the mission to enhance the programs and services of the Fairfax County Public Library, the largest public library system in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable and educational organization, the Foundation provides supplementary support to the community by providing access to information, technology, innovations, civic engagement and entertainment, and by offering literacy and educational opportunities.
